Review: YounA - Urgewalt EP

Apparently calling YounA a new band is logical since they only have one release coming on MA, but without info like the true forming year and members, this band provides nothing more than an enigma. Regardless those inconsequential thumb-biting myth, YounA is pure violence directly from hell behind those cells, waving a huge hammer and sharp gigantic scissors while sprinting like a strong yeti toward to your face. Usually I would prefer razor-sharp screaming more than like low-freq growls when picking up black metal bands. However, the vocalist in YounA clearly is one of the exceptions here, through those warmetal-like tense riffs his vocal howling makes you on heart-attack mode, concerns that he’s gonna tear the whole ground up. There’re indeed some similarities in YounA’s music with blackened death metal here especially when you go all that fast without much changing speed. Fortunately, that’s not a very serious problem thanks to the recording/engineering also, because in fact I don’t wanna see much of Behemoth similarities here. I instead do see some pure holocaust-esque drumming and that’s something always you’re glad to hear. You can also debate that also some mid-time Rites of Thy Degringolade, or even Revenge influences are involved. Kudos to these rapid, reckless snares which would just tear my ear off I guess, added to that occasion high-pitch lead guitar also work on scratching your cochlea ceaselessly. From an overall standpoint of extreme music, YounA did a fabulous work that thanks to that tense rhythm and echoes-from-the-cave vocals, as well as stone-cold cruel violence it brings to the table. Like a ruthless soldier who would hardly care to slay anything on his target list, even a god.

Verdict: (8/10) – The Key Keeper
